This month, we had a visit from our furry friend, Ernie! We really enjoyed his company. We were able to give Ernie lots of fuss, sneaked him some biscuits and went out for a walk with him in the afternoon.
At Castleford, we promote dog therapy because animal-assisted interventions are proven to increase self-esteem and confidence in people experiencing dementia. It can also improve quality of life and encourage independence. Visits from Ernie can be an energetic experience and an exciting part of someone’s day. Dogs can be a wonderful source of love and laughter, especially Ernie. We absolutely adore him.
One resident said, ”He’s just the sweetest boy I’ve ever seen. I could just cuddle him all day!”.
