Today has been a very special day at Castleford!
One of our resident’s, who came to live with us a year ago, has longed for a dog to keep her company in her room. So this year, her Christmas wish was to have a dog. So we made it happen!
Working with her family we decided to get her a “Dementia Companion Pet”, which is incredibly realistic. We made Daisy the dog look as authentic as possible, with all the accessories and even her own name tag.
We handed our resident a card, telling her she had a surprise in her room. We headed up, with the anticipation building and went into her room to surprise her with a new furry bundle of joy. Her reaction was everything we wanted and more. It was a magical moment! She said: “this is the best thing you could have done.”
She has happily settled down in her room with Daisy and they have quickly become the best of friends. She has proudly showed her to all of the staff and has continually said thank you. We are so happy to have been able to grant this wish for her!
