Penny’s trip to India

Penny Price is the Senior Nurse for Adult Mental Health services in South Powys. Penny has always longed to visit India because of its diversity and vibrancy.
Penny has worked in the caring profession for 30 years, but due to language barriers she knew would not be able to take her mental health skills to India, so instead looked at how she could help in other ways. She decided the best way to do this was through charity work and therefore teamed up with the charity PETE.
Penny helped hand out donated clothes to the children and families living in the slums of Delhi.
We have also helped PETE to set up a beauty school for the young women who once married, are no longer allowed to leave their homes without a chaperone. Some girls are married as young as 13 years old.
Penny also visited a group of girls who were victims of terrible acid attacks. The attacks have left the girls disfigured for life, but despite this, they still brave a smile and wear with pride their t-shirts that read ‘beauty is my smile’. Milkwood Care have kindly donated money to help the charity PETE and the girls who are vicitms of acid attacks.
