The Great North Run 2019

Posted on December 27, 2019 by Milkwood Admin

Earlier in the year, we decided to offer support and sponsor a registered charity. We agreed that our nominated charity would be Support Dogs, and decided that a great way to raise money for this worthy cause would be to take part in the Great North Run.

The home manager’s husband, Wes, was volunteered to be our nominated runner! He completed the run in a great time – it was a very hot day and Wes ran wearing a fancy dress dog suit!! There were approximately 50,000 runners and the whole event was electric with noise and music. There was a colourful array of runners, including a few famous faces.

Support Dogs is a registered national charity dedicated to increasing independence and quality of life for people with various medical conditions. The charity provides, trains and supports specialist assistance dogs to achieve this, including seizure alert dogs for people with epilepsy. The dogs are trained to provide a 100% reliable, up to 50 minute warning prior to the onset of an epileptic seizure. Support Dogs provide disability assistance dogs for people with physical disabilities.

A huge thank you to Jack and the Milkwood Care staff; Grant (Operations Director), Tracy, Jack and to Natalie and Lisa from Applewood Care home. Thanks also to Samantha from CCG Hampshire and Di from Chatterwood care home. Thank you to Liz. Donna and all work colleagues, friends and family for their amazing support. Milkwood Care also kindly agreed to match the value of the funds raised, which was a whopping £582.50!!!
