DAY 75 CELEBRATIONS
This year marked 75 years since the end of the Second World War. We felt it was only right that we celebrated in style here at Braeburn Lodge. In preparation, the residents made a fruit cake using the original recipe from Winston Churchill’s personal cook. Georgie also made a beautiful VE Day cake, which was decorated with Union Flags and roses. It looked simply amazing. Duncan Crawford very kindly donated his M29-C Weasel vehicle and Jeep for the day. Duncan and his son, Aiden, dressed for the occasion in authentic, replica uniform and waved hello to our residents over the garden fence.
Our staff all dressed for the occasion too in their vintage finest. Mandy Shora came to entertain our residents and sing a war time song or two, and everybody sang along to the music. We enjoyed a BBQ, and had tea and cake in the glorious sunshine. The highlight of the day was the staggered time slots for family to come and wave to their loved ones; the first hellos in 7 weeks due to the lockdown restrictions. Meridian News came to see us and were very pleased to see our wonderful celebrations. It was definitely a VE Day to remember and we are so pleased to have been able to celebrate this remarkable day with our lovely residents.
