Garden of Reflection

Posted on September 30, 2021 by Milkwood Admin

Nurse Karen looked at our memorial garden and felt that it didn’t do justice to remember the people who have passed away. So she decided to do something about it.
Her husband had booked for her to do a tandem skydive, which was on her bucket list, and she used this to help her raise funds to transform the garden. She was really pleased with the £250 raised.
She redesigned the garden and chose a stone circle, as she wanted something substantial to represent “the circle of life”. Beth renamed the space and it is now “Garden of Reflection”; a quiet area where people can go to reminisce as well as it being a place where loved ones who are no longer with us can have a plant placed in their memory.
Karen would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored her and also to Margaret Henderson, Karen England, Mr Blatchley and Castleford House for their kind and generous donations.
Below is some feedback from families about what this space means to them.

“Being a member of the gardening club is rewarding. Plants bring back memories, the colourful displays have sparked conversation from all who go through the front door or visit the gardens. We share the gardens with our chickens (who rake the flowers beds!) and plants for wildlife. There’s enough room for all.” – Margaret Henderson

“My dad has always loved this spot. It really helps him connect with nature and feel so peaceful. We were so happy when Karen and the team turned it into a permanent feature, the garden of reflection. Thank you so much.” – Eleanor, Ann and family.
