Mardi Gras

Today we celebrated Mardi Gras for the first time!
Mardi Gras, commonly known as ‘Fat Tuesday’, is usually celebrated before Ash Wednesday, when people traditionally start lent. Even though we won’t be doing lent at Castleford (as no one here is prepared to give up cake or wine), we have enjoyed indulging on pancakes and loved the festival vibes!
We decorated the lounge with purple, green and gold to capture the atmosphere of a Mardi Gras festival! We wore our festival headbands, beads, wrist bands, ate pancakes and danced the afternoon away!
It was a great way to welcome some new ladies who has come to join our Castleford family.
People loved experimenting with the flavours of the pancakes, using different sauces and fruits. One resident loved his pancakes and asked for seconds! He thought his pancakes were “smashing”.
We finished the afternoon dancing to “let’s get loud”. It was a precious moment, even more so because one of our ladies’ urned to us and said: “they’re my best friends.”
