The Orchard

John likes a morning coffee break, where he can read the paper and give a little shuffle of the deck as he plays a game of cards with staff.

On her special day, Barbara happily received lots of lovely cards and gifts from family and friends. Later in the afternoon, all staff and residents sang the birthday song to her and she was presented with a decorative birthday cake for all to enjoy.

Wow, what a treat! Paulina has many talents, but her baking is absolutely superb and we look forward to seeing and tasting her future creations. Judith and Freda were also delighted to receive their Easter eggs on Easter Sunday.

It was a beautiful day, so we took full advantage and sat comfortably with refreshments and decorated Easter hats.The residents used double sided sticky tape to attach farm animals, carrots, flowers and a few eggs and chicks to the hats – everyone was relaxed and enjoyed the activity.

These cheerful displays in our home were created by our lovely ladies – Elizabeth, Jinny, Jean and Barbara. They chose a selection of colourful flowers – including carnations and tulips. The ladies got to work trimming the stems and arranging the bunches. We all agree that flowers make the home feel more inviting, brighten up…

Jean added a few drops of paint to one side of a piece of paper, then folded the second side over the paint and pressed the paint sandwich together with her hands.When we opened up the folded paper, Voila! Jean had a unique and symmetrical painted design that we think looked like a pear. Well…

David mixed up a delightful batch of cupcakes for the residents to enjoy. He throughly enjoyed this activity and found it very relaxing. Once baked and cooled, Davidadded icing and sprinkles to his cakes for decoration and served for all to enjoy.

The Orchard team gathered for a geography quiz. Good knowledge of locations and countries brings appreciation of the uniqueness of places, including traditions, cultures, religions, foods, sports, etc. We love our geography quizzes – they reinforce our interest in the world and it is also lots of fun to learn new things.

Whilst I sat with John having a coffee and a chat one morning, I asked John, “What would you like to do?” Jon paused for thought. When I was about to give him the choice of activities he might like to do, he replied, “I would like to just sit here and hold your hand!”…
